Rainforests of the Sea

One of my favorite fish to see while snorkeling are parrotfish. They glide through coral reefs, flapping their long pectoral fins like a macaw in flight. I imagined two parrotfish swimming through a lush rainforest to draw a connection between the lush ecosystems above and below the water. Coral reefs are often called the “rainforests of the sea,” providing a home for about 25% of all marine life, making them one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth. Without reefs, ocean life as we know it would decline dramatically. Parrotfish are also the reef's #1 algae cleaners!
